Erasmus adventures in Jyväskylä, Finland

Adventure time! (part 1/2)

7 days, 6 cities, 2 countries, 1080 km in total, 170 km on the sea, 12 friends, 5 nationalities, … => Amazing holidays!!! 🙂

Jyväskylä -> Helsinki -> Tallinn -> Porvoo -> Turku -> Hämeenlinna -> Tampere -> Jyväskylä

10. – 16.10.2015 we had holidays, or how they call it here “remote study week”. With group of friends we decided to use this time to travel and see some nice places.

The whole trip was very exhausting, mainly because we always wanted to enjoy evening/night with group of great people, but on the other hand we also wanted to see a lot of the cities, so we got up quite early. And it was like this the whole time. BUT IT CERTAINLY WORTHED IT!!! We saw a lot of nice places and it was fun the whole time 🙂

Below there are some memories from places we visited.

Helsinki (Saturday)

Helsinki was our gathering point, because we traveled there different ways. Some people went by hitchhiking, some by train and bus. After we met, we just shortly walked through the city and then went to harbor. Our ferry cruise to Tallinn took 3,5 hours.

Tallinn (Saturday – Tuesday)

After arriving to Tallinn we decided to go shopping. Everybody was a little surprised by prices, mainly of beer and alcohol. After filling our shopping baskets with some alcohol (and of course food), we found out a little bit unpleasant information – it is prohibited to buy alcohol after 10pm and it was already 22:30, so everybody had to put alcohol back 🙁

Our hostel (The Monk´s Bunk) was a little surprise as well – after arriving we immediately understood the name “party hostel”. Reception was at the bar, there were a lot of drinking people around, table football, tables for beerpong, etc. We also got welcome shot of local liquor Vana Tallinn 🙂 I thought that we will probably not sleep well that night, but after playing some football, Twister and Alias, we were the last ones at the common room 😀

Next day we decided to get up early and we went for Tallinn Free Guided Tour. I will write more about Free Guided Tours in next article, but I certainly recommend it! Then we also walked through the city and had lunch in the pancake restaurant. In the evening we decided to have “a little party” in our hostel (Alur hostel). It was very nice time… Banana!!! 😀

Last night in smaller group we visited medieval restaurant Three Dragons (, which I certainly recommend to visit! Very nice atmosphere, great service and good offer of food and drinks.
