Erasmus adventures in Jyväskylä, Finland

Vappu

During the 1st of May, Finland is The place to be! Whole country celebrates Vappu, which is very important day in Finnish culture. All around the world it is the Labour day, but in Finland it is also a student holiday, when all students celebrate and enjoy a lot of fun 🙂

Saturday in park

I don´t know exactly how it has been previous years, but this year 1.5.2016 was Sunday, so celebrations took place during the weekend. In Jyväskylä on Saturday (30.4.) people (mainly, but not only, students) went to the Church park (Kirkkopuisto) in the city center to hang out on the grass, spend nice time with friends and classmates and especially have fun. The park was totally full of happy, relaxed people, which looked very nice!

Saturday in park

I am very happy that after leaving the park our friend Ville invited us to his place to meet his flatmates and friends, who were really nice people and it was amazing end of the whole day 🙂

On Sunday (1.5.) a lot of people gathered on Harju, forrest hill in the middle of the city, to have a picnic, barbecue or just sit and spend time with friends. Whole hill was full of students wearing overalls and graduation hats (ylioppilaslakki).

If you will ever have opportunity to be in Finland on 1st of May, certainly go for it! 🙂
